Child and adult friendly retreat

Harvest_Contemporary7

Project Brief

The brief was multifaceted with the requirements of grandparents who regularly care for their grandchildren.  Several zones were required:

  • child friendly area for general play
  • pool zone featuring the 8m Contemporary pool
  • entertaining/relaxation zone
  • utility zone

The small yard was divided into two fenced areas allowing the children to play safely outside of the pool zone.  The pool, entertaining area and utility zones were incorporated together to maximise the space.

The block sloped towards the house requiring a small retaining wall which is faced with StackStone and decking. As space was an issue, an Aussie HideawayTM is incorporated into the end of the deck concealing the pool cover and also creating a seating area cladded with StackStone.

Pool coping and the area around the utility shed featured travertine stone paving while the rest of the entertaining area was created using hardwood decking.

Solar heating is installed on the roof of the townhouse and the pool equipment is placed behind the existing utility shed with a treated pine pump house built to also create a space for pool toys and cleaning equipment.
